Appointing Temporary Guardians

With travel restrictions easing and the world opening up again, opportunities may arise when parents need to travel without their children, or are otherwise temporarily unable to care for them. In those situations, the children are often left in the care of a family member, trusted friend, neighbour, or helper.

As we know, decisions need to be made for children all the time. It could be providing consent for a school trip, medical treatment, or authority to make certain arrangements for the children.

This situation can easily be resolved by the parents executing a deed of appointment of a temporary guardian. This enables a third party carer to make certain decisions/ take certain actions in place of the parents, on a temporary basis, due to a parent’s absence (for whatever reason). Such a document will allow a parent to travel, or take up certain unavoidable engagements, and give them and the appointed third party carer the peace of mind that, during the parents’ absence, there is security and authority in place allowing the temporary carer to deal with certain events for the benefit of the children.

A deed of appointment of a temporary guardianship can be put together quickly. If you need more information, we can help. Please feel free to contact the team at info@crb.com.hk
