Samantha Gershon

Samantha has a broad spectrum of expertise advising on complicated children and financial matters. Having gained experience in various areas of the law both in-house and in different sizes of law firms, it has provided her with exposure to a diverse range of challenges and a “nothing fazing her” character and mentality.   She deploys this wealth and range of experience to provide solutions to those seeking her advice and support.  Samantha thinks instinctively, realistically and provides instant solutions even if the legal process is unable to provide answers or obvious solutions. 

 Although when needed she can be a tenacious litigator, Samantha is a strong advocate for appropriate dispute resolution. She is an accredited Private Financial Adjudicator, a trained collaborative practitioner and regularly attends mediations, assisting clients through the mediation process in order to avoid contested proceedings.

Samantha is qualified to practice in Hong Kong and England & Wales.

 Samantha is a Fellow of the International Academy of Family Lawyers (IAFL) and is on its Board of Governors as an Asia Pacific Chapter Delegate. She is also on the Management Committee of the IAFL, Asia Pacific Chapter. She is an executive committee member of the Hong Kong Family Law Association after having served as its Chairman (2018-2021), vice-chairman(2021-2024) and Honorary Secretary (2016-2-17). She is a Founding member, Director and on the Executive Committee of the Institute of Private Family Adjudicators (Hong Kong ) Ltd. which was set up to implement PDSL9 in respect of Private Financial Adjudication. She is a former Board Member of the Hong Kong Committee on Children Rights. She is a Contributing Editor to Family Law & Practice in Hong Kong and on the Editorial Board of Hong Kong Lexis Nexis Practical Guidance.

 Amongst her public roles, Samantha is on her second three-year term as a Practising Solicitor Member of the Solicitors Disciplinary Tribunal Panel. She is currently the Chairperson of the Solicitors Disciplinary Panel. She was formerly on the Hong Kong Law Society’s Panel of prosecutors. She is a former Mentor on both The Women’s Foundation Mentoring and Women in Law Hong Kong Programmes.

 Samantha acted for one of the parties in the most regularly Hong Kong quoted family cases relating to maintenance pending suit and litigation funding. It was the largest award of MPS made in Hong Kong and was later appealed HJFG v KCY[2011] HKCA 402[2012] 1 HKLRD 95.  

 Samantha has been ranked in 2022, 2023, 2024 and 2025 Chambers Greater China in which it was stated ”She is effective in advising clients as to reasonable and practical ways forward which clients always appreciate and take up” and the inagural Chambers Family/Matrionial High Net Worth (International Firms) Greater China Region 2024 in which it was stated “Samantha Gershon’s Practice is focused on family law matters, but she also has significant experience in commerical litigation work and brings this perspective to her high net worth matrimonial cases”.  She has also been listed as a Leading Family Lawyer in the Doyles Hong Kong Family & Divorce Law Rankings 2017-2024.
