"Love and Law: The Changing Dynamics of Divorce in Hong Kong and Beyond"

CRB joined the lively discussion hosted by Roubrick on 20 June 2024, canvassing latest trends in family law and out of court dispute resolution options available to families in Hong Kong.

The topics discussed include how the COVID-19 pandemic created a pressure cooker environment for families, with small living spaces, homeschooling, financial strain, and existential stress. But it also appears that some couples today lack a clear understanding of their “rights and responsibilities” within marriage and parenthood. The court system is also under significant strain, with slow judicial processes, and lagging progress in education and legal initiatives. The issue of finances and money is understandably critical, affecting how contentious and complicated proceedings can become.

It was clear that those working in family law have a deep commitment to ensuring that "custody" and "co-parenting" are understood, and that the wellbeing of children is always front of mind.
